I have a question to anyone regarding section M1601.3.1 of the IRC2003 regarding joints and seams. The code states that " joints of duct systems shall be made substantially airtight by means of tapes, mastics, gasketing or other approved closure system." the code goes on to list certian tapes for certian uses,but fails to identify a tape for metal to metal closure. I would like some feed back if possible. I have put this question out to a varriety of people and still have no real answer. The end result is a conflict with builders and HVAC contractors.
